JumpStart is a week full of events and programs designed to help students learn about how WWU works and where they can find the resources to help them be successful in college.

2018 Business Graduate Gives Back to Field That Gave Her So Much

Yara Fernandez has her eyes set on giving back to the field of health care. After having three major surgeries as a child, she is determined to help people in need of health care as she once was. “I hope to make a difference in someone’s life like the hospital staff once did for me,” she says. “I want to help others. It is my passion, and it will continue to be as I take on this journey in health care.”

ASWWU Selects 2018–19 Officers

Congratulations to the new officers for the Associated Students of Walla Walla University (ASWWU): Katelyn Folkenberg, president; Evelyn Ouro-Rodrigues, vice president; Lindsey Haffner, spiritual vice president; and Madilyn Malott, social vice president. The election of women to all of ASWWU’s top four leadership positions is a first for the organization and an exciting landmark at WWU.

Elected cabinet members are responsible for hiring other key players in ASWWU, including the financial vice president, marketing vice president and various department heads.

Church Leaders Meet With WWU Students for Open Conversation

Leaders from the North American Division (NAD) met with Walla Walla University students on campus in College Place, Wash., in May for a conversation to address student questions. During the 120-minute Facebook Live “Is This Thing On?” event, Dan Jackson, NAD president; Alex Bryant, NAD executive secretary; and Tom Evans, NAD treasurer, answered questions from a live audience.

Men’s Golf Team Places Third in Conference Championship

The Walla Walla University men’s golf team placed third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship tournament at Pronghorn Resort in Bend, Ore., April 23–24, 2018.

The Wolves were in fifth place at the end of the first day of play on Pronghorn’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. In the final round, seniors Brendan Collins and Cole Henderson each put up scores of 78 to help move the Wolves into third place.

Ribbon-Cutting Marks Opening of Transformed Bowers Hall

More than 500 people attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 7, 2017, to mark the reopening of Bowers Hall, home of the Walla Walla University (WWU) School of Business.

A yearlong renovation project on Bowers Hall added more than 3,000 square feet to the existing building and reorganized classroom and office space. The transformed facility includes an innovation classroom/laboratory, technologies that enhance digital learning, efficient group study spaces and multifunctional meeting spaces.

Business Program Reaccredited by ACBSP

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) reaffirmed accreditation of the business program at Walla Walla University (WWU) in December 2017.

The ACBSP has more than 1,100 member institutions in more than 50 countries and is a leading accreditor in mission-based standards of teaching excellence. The ACBSP is the only organization offering business accreditation for all degree levels, including associate, baccalaureate, master and doctoral programs.
