Elmer Hart, member of the Gig Harbor Company, was a WWII army medic and conscientious objector who served just down the beach from Hacksaw Ridge in 1945. Hart was drafted in 1943, 20-year-old at the time, while he was attending Walla Walla University. Read his story in the Tacoma News Tribune.
