McKINSTRY — Pearl E. (Maguire), 90; born Jan. 18, 1926, Little Rock, Ark.; died April 13, 2016 Sandy, Utah. Surviving: husband, James; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane McKinstry, Murray, Utah; daughter, Anne Shihadeh, Tigard, Ore.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Della Maguire, Loma Linda, Calif.; Munro and Lorraine Maguire, Long Beach, Wash.; sister, Rose Rearrick, Eugene, Ore.; 3 grandchildren, James Olmstead, Joshua, Texas; Stephen Olmstead, Mena, Alaska; Jamal Shihadeh, Tigard, Ore.; and a great-grandchild, Christopher Olmstead, Mena, Alaska.

Pearl McKinstry passed to her rest quietly in her room at Sunrise of Sandy Assisted Living where she had been living for the past two years. She was greatly loved by all her caregivers and fellow residences.

Pearl graduated from Laurelwood Academy and received her B.A. in Religion from Walla Walla University. She then went to Columbia Adventist Academy in Battle Ground, Wash., as dean of girls. She married James McKinstry on Sept. 10, 1950, in Portland, Ore. Together they raised two children.

Pearl always wanted to be a nurse so after she moved to San Jose, Calif., she went back to school and received her R.N. the same time her son Larry graduated from the eighth grade.

Pearl greatly enjoyed being a wife, mother, caring for her patients, traveling with her family on vacations and attending Colporteur rallies with her family.
