SUMMERS 50th

On May 3, 2015, Charles and Judy Summers’ children honored them with a gathering of family and friends for the rededication of their vows from May 1, 1965. Charles and Judy were married in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.

After they married, they moved from Tri-Cities, Wash., where Chuck worked as an electronics technician, to Half Moon Bay, Calif., where he was a ship-to-shore telegraph operator. Our first daughter was born in Palo Alto, Calif. With the need for radio operators in the Merchant Marine service during the Vietnam War, he signed onto a Victory ship, S.S. Massillon Victory, as its radio officer. While at sea, the couple would remain in contact from ship to land through ham radio of which Chuck has been licensed for 60 years. Judy caring for their new daughter in Yakima, Wash. Chuck worked for several electronics companies including the Brewster Flats Earth Satellite Station at Brewster, Wash.

When Judy was expecting their second child in 1970, her doctor, Fred Schnibbe, invited them to visit the new church in Brewster. This led to some meetings in Omak, Wash., and ultimately both Chuck and Judy being baptized.

Sabbath work conflicts forced the family to move several times and two more daughters joined the family. Eventually, they settled in Corvallis, Ore., where Chuck worked as an electronics technician, traffic signal tech and telephone tech, also building houses where the family would live. Judy was a nurse aide, worked for a clinic as manager and billing specialist, and worked as a special education bus driver, carpenter, and greeting card display manager for Ambassador Cards.

After retirement, the couple ranched in Klamath Falls, Ore., also operating their business of rentals and remodeling. They focused on being grandparents: enjoyed showing the grandkids how to chase cows with a tractor, buck hay and bake bread.

Charles and Judy now reside in Eugene, Ore., and attend the Santa Clara Church. They enjoy helping others in many ways, and maintaining the church buildings.

The Summers family includes Corinna Ransom of Wolf Point, Mont.; Shannon Summers of Eugene, Ore.; Renae Summers; Aimee Anderson of Florence, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
