Pathfinders and Pastors Attend 2012 Fair

The first thing I noticed upon arriving at Upper Columbia Academy (Spangle, Wash.) was the Pathfinders. They were all over the place! Thirty-four clubs, 850 Pathfinders and staff, and 44 pastors convened for the Upper Columbia Conference's 2012 Pastors' Appreciation Pathfinder Fair the weekend of May 18–20. I was one of them.

Republic Church Sports New Sign

A new sign welcomes visitors and members to the Republic (Wash.) Church. Thanks to the construction and rock work of Bob Charbonneau, Bob Nehler, Jack Knight, Al Fleck and Leonard Klein, the sign is a fitting beacon of hope for the community.

UCC Teacher Receives National Award

Anita Roberts, third- and fourth-grade teacher at Lake City Junior Academy (LCJA) in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was presented with a national award at the close of the 2011–2012 school year. The award includes a $2,000 gift and a medallion.

Roberts was among 10 teachers selected this spring by the Alumni Awards Foundation (AAF) to receive a 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award. The AAF is a foundation that supports Adventist schools in North America.

Missionaries Visit Grants Pass Church

Mission pilots Dwayne and Wendy Harris visited the Grants Pass (Ore.) Church on May 12 to tell of a trial they recently faced in the Philippines. While assisting neighbors during a robbery in March, one of the suspects shot Dwayne. He was hit once in the face and again in the chest.

Pathfinder Fair 2012 Held in Albany

The 2012 Oregon Conference Pathfinder Fair, held May 20 at the Linn County Expo Center in Albany, Ore., began with the Pathfinder parade. Pathfinders marched in front of a large audience, which included Tracy Wood, Oregon Conference Pathfinders director. Wood welcomed them and said, "Good morning! Looking sharp."

Next was the posting of colors (flags) by the Pleasant Valley (Happy Valley, Ore.) Pathfinders color guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayer.

Pathfinder Sabbath Held in Grants Pass

Not only did the Grants Pass (Ore.) Church celebrate six baptisms on May 5, it also hosted Pathfinder Sabbath. Under the leadership of Steve King, these boys and girls spent many weeks preparing for this event. The Pathfinders used songs and skits to emphasize their theme, "Send Me."

Prineville Presents 'An Evening at Cafe Grace'

The Prineville (Ore.) Church recently hosted "An Evening at Cafe Grace," a one-act play written and directed by a local member as a low-key outreach. The fellowship hall was turned into Cafe Grace, where guests were greeted at the door by one of the waitresses in the play. The menus they were given featured the "On the House" Special for the evening, an overflowing homemade desert and snack bar.

Grants Pass Mexican Fiesta Features CHIP Plant Food Cuisine

"The meal could be served in a restaurant with no apologies," reports one of the participants in the "Mexican Fiesta" cooking class held May 6 at the Grants Pass (Ore.) Church.

The first Sunday of every month, the CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) Delicious Plant Food Cuisine cooking team presents an event in the Grants Pass, Ore., area, ranging from cooking demonstrations with hearty samples and recipes to restaurant experiences with guest speakers and vegetable garden tours.
