Prineville Uses Socials as Church Outreach

Beginning with the 2005 term of service, the Prineville (Ore.) Church social committee set out to plan monthly social events.

During these social activities, new members are welcomed with gifts, and birthday celebrants for the month are greeted. In closing the socials, attendees sing “The Family of God” and end with prayer so everyone can leave with God's peace and the longing to be together again in church worship and the next social activity.

The Christmas progressive dinner was well attended in spite of the cold and snowy weather. Good food, hot cider and cocoa, and singing carols around the piano warmed the hearts of those who came.

A Mexican fiesta was celebrated in with enchiladas and chile rellenos, plus a piñata for the children.

Old wedding and childhood photos decorated a candlelight Valentine dinner in February. The program featured classic love songs.

What is amazing is that many family members and friends who are not yet members of the church come to these social gatherings. Members pray that their hearts will warm to God through these fun, light-hearted moments.

Christians must be happy and enjoy wholesome fun and fellowship. We show others that Christ is in our hearts by coming to, participating in and supporting church socials.
