Public High School Retreat 2005

Every year on the first weekend in March, Sunset Lake Camp is alive with teenagers for Public High School Retreat. This year's theme focused on allowing Jesus to come in and be the light of your world, so that you can “shine” for God where you live. More than 160 young people from all over the conference were challenged to accept God’s high calling to be all they are meant to be—true lights for God.

This message came from William Hurtado, Puyallup Church youth pastor, who was the weekend speaker. Since he is a part of our Washington Conference family and ministers close by, his youth group was able to compliment his sermons with dramas they had written for the retreat.

We were also blessed to have the At the Cross worship band from Olympia Church lead out in worship during each general session. For Sabbath School and church time, Will, Brian and Tina from Clean Slate Improv team, currently ministering at Green Lake Church, reinforced points about God’s forgiveness.

One highlight on Sabbath afternoon was seeing Heather, Doug and Stephanie step into the chilly waters of Sunset Lake to commit their lives to God through baptism. They had studied with Pastor William and with Lisa Tupper, youth leader at Puyallup, and wanted to celebrate their decision with all their friends from across the conference at this event.

The high school students participated in a multitude of experiences and activities in addition to fun camp activities like bonfires, hayrides, the climbing wall, canoes, zip line and more.

Public High School Retreat 2005 was an incredible weekend that allowed students to focus on Jesus and His desire to shine in their lives. It was filled with worship, new friends, fun activities, and the great outdoors. We invite you to mark your calendars for the first weekend of March and join us for PHR 2006!
