TAYSOM 100th

The Pocatello Church honored the 100th birthday of Avis Taysom on Jan. 10, 2015. Avis celebrated with her church family, her son, and several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the small event.

Avis Grenfell was born in Hillsboro, Ore., but grew up in Bellevue, Idaho, just south of Ketchum. After attending Walla Walla College, Avis moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she worked as a nurse at the Pocatello General Hospital. She married Eli Taysom, the son of one of her patients, in 1937. They lived worked in Reno and Ely, Nev., and Rigby, Idaho, before settling again in Pocatello.

Avis has long been an active member of the Adventist Church. She was an active elder, worked in women’s ministry and, even at 80 years old, was the weekend cook for a Pathfinder Club campout.

Avis still lives in the house that Eli built, doesn't take any regular medication, spends time out exploring yard sales and grocery stores, cooks her own meals, and is always ready to partake of her favorite hobby, fishing.

Avis' family includes her children Wayne and Elaine, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and the family is still growing.
