Adventist Health Expands Services in Oregon

Adventist Health has expanded its mission to provide health care services to the community of Vernonia, Ore. Located between the Portland metropolitan area and the northern Oregon Coast Range, Vernonia is geographically isolated by 30 miles from health care in neighboring communities.

Adventist Health Tillamook Medical Group, which specializes in providing rural health care, is now providing expanded access to care in Vernonia by offering primary care, urgent care and laboratory services. Radiology services will be added this fall.

Adventist Health Holds Career Fair in Walla Walla

Adventist Health facilitated a career fair on July 6 in Walla Walla, Wash., which was attended by several hundred Walla Walla General Hospital (WWGH) employees. More than 20 employers were on hand to inform employees of local and regional job opportunities. Several employees had resumes prepared, while others took application information. The day's event seemed to indicate a large number of employment opportunities would result from fair.

Transfer Halted ... WWGH to Close July 24

The following media release from the Northwest Region office of Adventist Health on Monday, June 19, has announced that the pending plans to transfer control of Walla Walla General Hospital (WWGH) to Providence Health & Services have been discontinued. This will lead to the closure of WWGH effective July 24, 2017. We encourage Northwest members to add their prayers for all affected by this change: WWGH staff and families, the surrounding churches and wider community ... and even Adventist Health leaders who also feel the loss of this ministry outlet deeply.

The Heart and Soul of Sacred Work

Since she was a child, Jessica Lee envisioned one day entering a profession that involved caring for small children. She especially sensed her special connection with babies. Infants, in turn, seemed drawn to her nurturing voice and attentive heart.

With these qualities, it’s no wonder Lee eventually pursued her sacred calling at Walla Walla University’s School of Nursing with a desire to influence care and make a difference in the lives of moms and babies.

Inspiring Hope Across the Globe: A Story From Sierra Leone

When your mission is rooted in living God’s love, you may find yourself called to cross an ocean to carry out that mission. That’s what happened in the lives of five Tillamook Regional Medical Center (TRMC) employees.

The five-member team from Tillamook, Ore., flew to Sierra Leone in West Africa in February to volunteer at Adventist Health System’s Waterloo Hospital. For 10 days, they shared their unique set of skills and expertise to provide healing and build relationships with the community.

Gratitude: An Essential Foundation for Spiritual Well-Being

Mario DeLise had a vision in 2009 to develop an event through which attendees could participate in meaningful dialogue on spirituality and health care. At the time, DeLise was the spiritual care director at Walla Walla General Hospital in southeast Washington.

What began as a way to provide education, practical skill-building and fellowship for area ministers quickly grew both in size and diversity. The hospital held the seventh annual Spiritual Care Symposium in January 2017.

A new collaboration between Adventist Health’s spiritual care team and dedicated volunteers is making prayer a present and personal part of surgeries at Adventist Medical Center.
