Student Winter Campout Benefits Fairbanks Food Bank

Golden Heart Christian School's (GHCS) annual campout has included preparing bags of dried soup mix for the Fairbanks Food Bank for the past five years. Teacher Barbara Quaile reports that when she delivered the soup, food bank personnel immediately recognized her and told her how much they appreciate the annual donation.

Assisting in the preparation of the soup this year were three students from Anchorage Junior Academy who joined GHCS for the winter campout held at a Boy Scout camp 45 miles southeast of Fairbanks.

While at the camp, students experienced dog mushing with mushers Alyssa Quaile and her friend Laura, learned to use a GPS to locate geocaches, and enjoyed a presentation about the Civil War from two Fairbanks men who have participated in Civil War re-enactments.
