The recent spate of incidents involving well-known athletes and domestic abuse should not distract us from recognizing that this problem is also an unacceptable issue in the church. The Adventist Church is seeking to combat relationship violence in its campaign, End It Now. At the 2014 Summit on Abuse, Ron Flowers, co-director of the world church family ministries department, presented a talk entitled “The God Who Sees.” He acknowledges that many are given the wrong biblical answers on this topic. Some misled but well-meaning people as well as abusers, misuse Scripture to suggest that suffering is an abused spouse's duty. Flowers counters that perspective with hopeful, helpful advice.
