HIEB 90th

Archie Hieb celebrated his 90th birthday on Aug. 1, 2014, in Walla Walla, Wash., with a three-day backyard gathering with more than 50 family members. Family enjoyed the shade of a big tent, BBQs, lawn games and bonfires.

Archie was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Jamestown, N.D., to Ed and Emelia Hieb. He, along with four siblings, grew-up on his father’s homestead north of Cleveland, N.D. He attended grade school at a local country school house and high school at Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, N.D.

After graduating and a summer of hopping trains to Spokane and Walla Walla, Wash., for work, he returned to help on the farm. A few years later in 1947, he met and married the country school teacher, Lyndel Peterson from Minneapolis. They took over the farm when his father retired and there raised eight children until moving to Walla Walla in 1974. The last four children all graduated from Walla Walla Valley Academy in College Place, Wash.

In Walla Walla, he first worked installing underground irrigation systems, until managing his rental properties became a full-time job. For the next 35 years he bought, maintained and sold real state in the Walla Walla area until retiring fully in 2007.

Archie and Lyndel are still self-sufficient in their own home in Walla Walla and have been longtime members and supporters of the Village Church in College Place.

Archie's family includes 6 living children, 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 more great-grandchildren due this summer.
